GumGum 2017 Hackathon Highlights

GumGum is constantly at the forefront of creation and creativity but sometimes even the best ideas take a long time to develop. That’s why each Summer, we host our annual Hackathon competition. This year, 11 teams—consisting of employees from all different departments—competed against each other for the first prize trophy between July 12-14.  For a competition that only lasted two days, we were blown away by how each idea was meticulously developed and presented to our panel of judges.

Our Hackathon is no joke. With all the necessary resources at their hands, it’s a chance for employees to develop concepts that would normally take years to evolve. In fact, several ideas from last year’s competition were immediately put into action by the company, which continue to be used today. And same goes for this year, too.

During the two intense days, we make sure to take care of our hackers. Each team was provided with their own beer keg perfectly positioned on their desks for easy access. Daily lunches, dinners and relaxation were provided. For example, the Coolhaus ice cream truck made an appearance on the first day and Zeel Massage set up in the office to give team members a soothing massage throughout the day.

At the end of the hackathon, each team had 15 minutes to present their hack(s) to our panel of executive judges, with 5 minutes of Q&A. They were then ranked by the following criteria:  innovation, execution, business impact and feasibility.

The winners were announced while everyone enjoyed drinks, hors d’oeuvres and a beautiful sunset on our rooftop.
